Mission: Preparing for Summer
Location: Briefing Room
Timeline: THU 20 APR 2024, 0700

"Good morning," Sergeant Nell called at precisely 0700 from the front podium of the briefing room. "I hope everyone had a good couple of days off. It's about to get busy people," he said, looking around at the assembled platoon.

Angelica and Cheech took their seats, the dog deciding to lay down next to her, for his usual nap while the people talked.

Ani nodded, on her days off she had started to notice an influx of people. She sat back in her seat listening intently to what the Sergeant had to say.

Harrison had arrived early enough to find himself a seat in the briefing room somewhere in the middle of the pack, he'd been in for a few years and he wasn't all too keen at sitting at the front as he listened to the sergeant.

To his left, Mitchell sat against the wall, leaning heavily into it before sitting somewhat more upright when the sergeant went to address the room.

"The last couple weeks of April is when we begin gearing up for the summer months. Though it does tend to slowly get busier and busier as May goes on with some household employees or companies making preparitions for our vacationers to return. And of course it's time to do our annual pre-summer training," he said, glancing down at his clipboard.

Mitchell raised a brow at the mention of pre-summer training, glancing over towards his partner in stopping crime, Brianna, with a humorous look on his face.

"Assignments are posted for sectors, and units will be pulled offline one or two at a time for various trainings, such as ATV qualification. We will also be getting one of our marine units back in the water on and off full-time for the next few weeks. So perhaps there are some training opportunities there for working with the boats. We'll see how that goes Dunn and Clancy can work with me on that," he said, looking toward those two.

Mitch nodded, a knowing smile on his lips as he looked over at his partner, Dunn and gave her a nod. He was glad that they were back out on the water and it mean that they were going to be practicing their water safety drills, checking over engines and like the sergeant stated, working with training opportunities with other units. "Sounds good, sarge."

"Alright, next, welcome back to Cadet Maria Castillo. She has been given the role of Cadet Sergeant and our lead on the cadet side of the house for the Sheriff's Cadet Unit. She'll be spending some time in the field with us today and riding with Deputy Conway.

Carmen, as she preferred to be called, raised her hand high into the air. She preferred standing and often took position towards the back of the room, leaning against the wall. "Saludos everyone," she greeted in her native tongue.
"It is good to be back." Scanning the room, she identified familiar faces, specifically searching for Deputy Conway.

Harry raised his hand from where he sat as a signal should Maria look around to locate him. He would give a wave, "Glad to have you on board." He was more than aware that it was something the marine unit were likely to say but it was out of his mouth before he had the chance to stop them. "Any questions during the day, feel free to ask. I don't bite."

Carmen acknowledged his welcome pointing in his direction. "I see someone didn't attend K9 Cheech's recent demonstration on take down tactics," she teased in hopes of lighthearted rapport. "It feels like my first day again, so I am sure I will have a lot. Thank you Deputy".

Cheech lifted his head up, hearing his name, his tail thumped against the floor.

“Alright,” Nell said. “I don’t really have a whole lot besides the increased of activity across the county.” He flipped through some notes on his notepad and then looked up after a memory-induced “oh” came out.

“Make sure you secure your vehicles,” he said. “One of the other tours had a vehicle that was tampered with in the parking lot of the emergency room. If you get something stolen from your car or the car itself stolen I promise you that you will be unhappy at work for the foreseeable future,” he said.

“Make good decisions, don’t make my job harder, stay safe,” Nell announced in his usual farewell bid to start the shift.

“Hear that? Make good decisions and don’t make my job harder either,” Justin said, turning toward his trainee.

Eyes widening, Piper turned to look at her assigned mentor. Mentally she shuffled through the interactions they'd had so far trying to decide if he was echoing Nell or if she'd miss-stepped somewhere and he was using this opportunity to quietly reprimand her. She didn't think that was the case, but then she was new. Maybe she had made an error in judgment and missed something obvious.

"Right," she said, schooling her features as she did. "Make good decisions. Got it."

"Alright, get to work!" Nell said, in dismissal.

Once the briefing had concluded, Harrison had gotten up, waiting around for Carmen before leaving the room to get kitted up and ready for their shift.
